William T. Dlugos

William T. Dlugos (Bill) was born in 1938 and entered the USAF in 1958 from Cleveland, Ohio. After Basic Training he completed Tech school at Keesler AFB in Airborne Communications Electronics Maintenance and then remained at Keesler as an instructor.

He was later transferred to Sheppard AFB, Texas where he was an instructor in the Missile Electronics Maintenance Course. While there he applied for and was accepted to attend USAF Officer Candidate School in class 63A starting in April 1962. During that time he met and married his wife Marilyn.

After OCS he was again assigned to Keesler AFB, (10/62-9/63), where he completed the Computer Maintenance Officer Course, and then to Ft. Lee, VA, as a SAGE Computer Maintenance officer. Bill was then transferred to Doebraberg, Germany (7/65-7/68), and the 606th AC&W SQ as a 412L Computer Maintenance Officer.

Once again he was back at Keesler (8/68-5/71), this time as an instructor supervisor in the AUTODIN Programming Course. From May 71 to September 74 he attended AFIT’s program at Louisiana Tech University as a student and liaison officer. He earned a Masters in Electrical Engineering.

After completing his degree work he was assigned to Tinker AFB, OK, (9/74-6/77) as the Chief Command and Control Div. AF Computer Programming Center.

Next he served as the Chief, Secure Data Communications Branch at the Defense Communications Engineering Center at Reston, Va. (6/77-8/80), and to SHAPE Headquarters at Casteau, Belgium where he was Chief of Engineering, SHNMO from August 1980 to August 1983. On his return to the U.S. he chose to retire in the grade of Lt. Col. with over 25 years service. At that time he and Marilyn had two children.

Bill’s first civilian job was working for Bolt, Beranek & Newman which eventually merged with Verizon. He stayed with BBN and Verizon from Aug. 83 to Dec 2000 working as an engineer and engineering Manager/ Programmer Manager and General Manager.

The Dlugos’ just recently moved back to the Cleveland area (North Royalton) where they plan to stay.
