OBITUARY

RayCAPTAIN JAMES F. RAY died 5 June 1969. He was 32 years old. Capt. Ray, a navigator on an RC-135 aircraft, was killed when his plane crashed somewhere off the western Aleutian Islands of Alaska. His body and those of the other 18 crew members were never recovered. The SAC jet disappeared Thursday, June 5th, 1969 about 30 minutes after taking off from Shemya at the tip of the Aleutian Island chain. It was on a flight to Eielson AFB near Fairbanks, Alaska.

Capt. Ray was a native of Greensboro, North Carolina. He was stationed at Warner Robins AFB, Georgia where his family received notification of his death. Capt. Ray is survived by his wife Jeanette, daughters Sherree, Dawn, Sharon and Regina; also two brothers and two sisters as well as his parents Mr. and Mrs. William Chambers Ray of Greensboro.
